Welcome to the "Forest School" Page:

Forest Schools is an exciting development at Newton Solney C of E Infant School.

A "Forest School" is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning. It involves positive outdoor experiences in a woodland environment. Children visit a wooded area once a week, in most types of weather, to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks, to use their own initiative to solve problems and to co-operate with others.

We are so pleased to offer ‘’Forest School’’ to all 3 Year groups at Newton Solney. With the help of parents and grandparents we have developed a part of our school grounds into a magical ‘’Forest School’’ environment. Each week the children take part in exciting activities that create memories, which will stay with them forever.

The sessions are run by Mrs Gamble, Miss Allan and Mrs Ryan who have passed their Level 3 Qualification in ‘’Forest School’’. They plan fun activities each week which encourage exploration and investigation. The children play games in the woods and work in teams, for example to build shelters. The children learn how to handle and use tools appropriately. Year 1 and Year 2 children also learn to respect fire as they enjoy making food and singing songs around the camp fire. Each session involves a snack time when the children have hot chocolate and marshmallows.

‘The most memorable days usually end with the dirtiest clothes.’
